vini vici interview

“Few acts have such a well-defined signature sound” – quoting none other than trance icon Armin van Buuren when asked to describe the Vini Vici duo.

Although the Vini Vici jam is labeled as Psytrance, their cataclysmic, yet authentic & mesmerising sound took them way beyond the psychedelic world spectrum.

We caught up with the duo at AMF 2018 this year and spoke to them about being at the forefront of psytrance revolution and more.

T.H.E – How has 2018 been for you guys?

Vini Vici – Wow, it was a dream! This summer was the most amazing summer ever and Tomorrowland was the pick of this amazing season. Natural high seriously!

T.H.E – Specifically talking about collaborating with Armin van Buuren and Alok on “United”, it’s been doing the waves across the globe in every festival. How did that collaboration come about?

Vini Vici – We had the idea to record the crowd and that the idea was to unite the crowd together with the melody, you know. So then we collaborated with Zaffir and actually featured him in the song. We actually recorded a whole lot of people, like 500 people that recorded the melody. And also we collaborated with Armin van Buuren and Alok because they came from two different genres. Armin van Buuren from Trance, Vini Vici from Psytrance and Alok from Brazilian Bass so to combine all of these three different styles in one song and to let the music unite the people, you know. And that was the concept.

T.H.E – Obviously Armin, you’ve collaborated with before as well. How is it working with him?

Vini Vici – Armin is such a great guy. He really is a role model, not just as a producer but also as a person. He is always very kind and open-minded. We look up to him, you know. It’s always great working with him, we learn so much from him.

T.H.E – And in the last two years a lot of your tracks have kind of been responsible for psytrance sort of getting the popularity that it deserves like “Chakra”, “Great Spirit” and “United”. How does it feel knowing that when you guys started off, psytrance was more of an underground sound and now it is being played on the mainstages?

Vini Vici – We’re truly honored and blessed about being the representatives of psytrance worldwide. We are very happy. I think psytrance is in its golden days for sure. The more underground and the more commercial parts are growing and we’re happy to be part of this process, amazing process.

T.H.E – Which are some of the psytrance artists that we should keep an eye out next year?

Vini Vici – Blastoyz, Reality Test, White Noise, Phanatic. There are great upcoming names. If you want to go more underground, then check out Dent & Mato. These guys are great.

T.H.E – Considering you guys accomplished a lot in the last two years, what are your goals for 2019?

Vini Vici – Our goals are to continue pushing psytrance to the next limit. We really love this action, this feeling. And we really hope to push it to the next level.

T.H.E – Thank you.

Vini Vici – Thank you.
