Who Else on the new EP, teaming up with Family Piknik, and more.
T.H.E – Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials! Where are you based right now?
Who Else – Hello! Thank you for inviting me to the interview. I currently live in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
T.H.E – Congrats on the new EP, it’s big! When and where did you write it?
Who Else – Thanks for the words, I’m very happy with this EP too! It was a track that I had made in 2019 in my studio, but I never sent it anywhere, and later in 2021 I decided to refresh the sounds a bit and send them to Family Piknik for the first time. I’m glad they accepted me.
T.H.E – How did you link up with the Family Piknik guys for it?
Who Else – First I didn’t know them, and I saw that they mentioned me in a post, since I was supporting a track that they had already released. Then I thought that maybe it could be a good idea to try to sign a song with them and that’s how I asked for Ludovic Rambaud’s contact on the general page, and I sent him this song.
T.H.E – Tell us a bit about how you produced it? How do you get into the creative flow?
Who Else – To produce this track, I was inspired by some classical music melodies, and I thought it would be a good idea to mix violins, cellos and other classical music and mix them with synths and electronic grooves. I always imagined birds flying over the surface of the sea hahahah.
T.H.E – How did you choose the remixers?
Who Else – The remixers were chosen by Family Piknik, but they always asked me what I thought. And I think they made a good choice.
T.H.E – Have you been able to road test the new EP yet? What was the reaction like on the dancefloor?
Who Else – My original mix, I had the opportunity to test it in a streaming that I did in the Patagonia of Argentina. The remix of “Several Definitions” I was testing it in my last gigs and it worked very well, people were very excited.
T.H.E – What are your touring plans this year? Any gigs you’re especially looking forward to?
Who Else – This year I’m going to go to Europe during the summer, I’m going to be performing for the first time at Pacha Barcelona during Sonar Off Week, and well, also at the Family Piknik Festival, which I’m really looking forward to.
T.H.E – Are there any artists you have your eyes on at the moment? Who’s next to take the scene by storm?
Who Else – I like several artists, but I think I have a great appreciation for Colyn’s music at the moment, and also Rüfüs Du Sol, I love the unofficial remixes that are going around and that I also play.
T.H.E – What is the best thing about dance music? And what would you like to see change about the industry
Who Else – I love my job and dedicate myself to this, I love how a DJ can cheer up or excite the public on the dance floor and have that connection, I like festivals and the energy that you feel playing in those kinds of places. As for the industry, I would like the promoters or party organizers not to put together their events following only fashions and trends, I think there are many very good DJs or producers who are unknown and I think they could be given more exposure opportunities and not just think of the quick money. I speak in general, because here you can see a clear example of how Family Piknik gave me an opportunity without being well known to them, but they trusted my music, I think.
T.H.E – Is there anything else coming up for that you can tell us about?
Who Else – I’m really looking forward to my next performances abroad and to see what people’s reaction will be! On the other hand I have several finished remixes and originals that will be out soon, I can’t tell you much but I’m very happy with them since I’ve been playing them a lot during my presentations! I think this is going to be a good year :)
