Slack outages aren’t common, but when they happen, they can disrupt your workflow.

If you’re struggling to connect, here’s how to troubleshoot and possibly get it working again.

Check If Slack Is Actually Down

Before diving into troubleshooting, verify whether the issue is on your end or not:

Fix Common Connection Issues

If Slack’s servers are fine, the issue is likely on your end. Try these steps:

  • Restart Slack: Close and reopen the app or browser tab.
  • Check your internet: Test your connection by opening another website.
  • Clear cache: In your browser settings, clear cookies and cached files.
  • Try a different network: If possible, switch to mobile data or another Wi-Fi connection.

Update or Reinstall Slack

Sometimes, outdated software causes issues. Ensure it is up to date:

  • On desktop: Go to Slack’s website and download the latest version.
  • On mobile: Visit the App Store or Google Play to check for updates.
  • Reinstall if needed: Uninstall and reinstall Slack to reset its settings.

When All Else Fails

If none of these steps work, you may have to wait for the company to fix the issue. Meanwhile, consider these alternatives:

  • Use email or another messaging platform for urgent communications.
  • Check Slack’s Twitter account for updates.
  • Set up alerts on its status page to get notified when it’s back up.

Such outages are frustrating, but they don’t have to bring your work to a standstill. Try these troubleshooting steps, and if all else fails, be patient – the company’s engineers are likely already working on a fix.
