Winter Storm Warning in Effect
A winter storm warning from the National Weather Service runs from Friday morning to Saturday morning. Snow and sleet accumulations are expected to reach up to 3 inches. Ice accumulations will reach up to one-third of an inch. The precipitation will lead to slick roads – particularly on bridges and overpasses. Long-lasting power outages can also be expected with ice-laden tree limbs and power lines.
Impact on Local Facilities
Due to the forecasted storm, Cobb County officials said they will be closing facilities and courts on Friday, January 10. The Cobb and Marietta School Districts also announced they would be closed on Friday. CobbLinc public transportation will not operate on Friday or Saturday.
Travel and Safety Precautions
Residents are advised to postpone all nonessential travel during the storm because of hazardous road conditions. If you must travel, prepare your vehicle for an emergency with blankets, flashlights, and water.
Preparation Efforts by Cobb County
The Cobb County Department of Transportation has mobilized road maintenance crews to treat and clear over 430 miles of roadway. Preparations include treating critical areas, such as bridges and overpasses, to minimize disruptions.
