The Puppy Bowl returns for its 21st year, an annual event to help with pet adoptions and to give audiences their much – needed dosage of puppy chaos. The game pits two teams against each other, Team Ruff and Team Fluff, comprised of puppies from shelters around the country, in a game to carry chew toys into the end zones and win the coveted Lombarky Trophy.

This year’s lineup includes 142 puppies from shelters all over the U.S., including small and large breeds, special needs pups, and underdogs, all ready to prove themselves on the big stage.
The Rules of the Game
The Puppy Bowl isn’t all about the cuteness factor, and it does have its set of rules, sort of. Touchdowns are supposed to happen when a puppy drags a toy into the end zone. A referee, Dan Schachner, has been keeping things in order since 2012 with hilarious calls like unnecessary ruffness and pass inter-fur-ence.

But arguably most importantly, the Puppy Bowl has a 100% adoption rate every year. Most of the puppies watched during the show will have already been placed by the time the show actually airs. It raises awareness for pet adoption and brings attention to some really great shelters.
