Hailing from Chicago, singer-songwriter Marcus Anthony Johnson is introducing his new enigmatic soul-meets-R&B debut as Marcus Atom.
A vocalist in the 2017 Humanz ensemble of the Grammy-nominated album Humanz by the Gorillaz, Atom has a long track record of accomplishments under his belt including collaborations with The Smashing Pumpkins and Morrissey’s Matt Walker, and Chi-town native Cofresi on the producer’s song, “Coldheart,” which received praise from media tastemakers like UpROXX, Earmilk and This Song Slaps. In addition to collaborations, Marcus’ extensive resume also includes sharing the stage with some of the music industry’s most esteemed talents, including De La Soul, Pusha T, Vince Staples, Carly Simon, Anthony Hamilton, Zebra Katz, and many more!
Today making his solo-artist debut, Atom seamlessly weaves his own brand of electronica and neo-soul on new single “Son Of A Bad Man.” The songs jazzy elements seamlessly collide with a low-temp hip-hop mid-west snap production, and pairs beautifully with Atom’s virtuous libretto. “Son Of A Bad Man” introduces listeners to the aesthetic of Atom’s music that highlights the raw emotions of the artist delivered via his undeniably honest songwriting approach.
While Atom’s future plans for the project are yet to be revealed, listeners can catch Atom live opening for Goodie Mob (CeeLo Green, Khujo, T-Mo, and Bigg Gipp) on June 14th at Chicago’s Park West (location changed from Vic Theater), and on August 25th at Chicago’s Summer Sounds with Malcolm London in partnership with Vic Mensa’s mental health and environmental justice organization, Save Money Save Life (SMSL), held at Drumbar.
