REAPER returns to Bassrush Records with his sophomore single, “Pulse.”
Despite his relative newcomer status on the drum & bass scene, the masked man known as REAPER has built up an unstoppable momentum that has positioned the anonymous figure as one of the most inspirational talents from the American D&B scene. And what makes his seemingly over-night claim to fame is the fact that he’s skyrocketed up the ranks within a one-year window. Earlier this year, he took his first flight on the Bassrush catalog with his label debut “Hysteria,” which saw him linking up with another strong Stateside sensation AWOLTALK on a complete tear-out of a collab. Now, he’s back for a second round, this time putting his D&B dexterity on a standalone single that’ll have a direct effect on your endocrine system.
“Pulse is about the excitement of an adrenaline rush,” explains REAPER. “This song is the moment when the world around you gets heavy, your senses dial in, and you can feel your heartbeat in your throat. The bassline is intended to be a dense and direct force that cuts through large spaces, similar to the laser-focus that is activated during a fight or flight response.”
Straight off the runway, the countdown to takeoff pushes the listeners to the back of their seats with hushed hats keeping time underneath suspenseful chord streams and a blaring alarm riser signaling to aerobatic maneuvers that lie ahead. Once the beat catches air underneath its wings, the flight pattern changes course into a choppy, powerful beat that zips and rolls through punchy synth stabs. It’s only his second appearance on Bassrush, but “Pulse” leaves no room for doubt that REAPER is here for the long haul.
