David Guetta’s underground house alter ego Jack Back returns with the gospel-tinged new single ‘The Walk To Church’ featuring innovative producers Wh0 and Roland Clark.
An alias originally coined by David Guetta in 2012, Jack Back has enabled the dance music superstar to return to his progressive house roots – while in its own right amassing over 1M monthly listeners on Spotify and delivering chart-topping club singles.
Taking a quick breather from his endless streak of world-conquering dance hits, ‘The Walk To Church’ is the sound of Guetta diving back into the underground scene under one of his many alter egos, with the mysterious UK duo Wh0 and New York vocalist, DJ and producer Roland Clark. As the title suggests, ‘The Walk To Church’ has a soulful undertone, supported by choirs, Roland’s gospel-inspired lead vocal and a driving house groove. A chopped-up soul vocal makes for an unforgettable chorus, readymade for underground clubs and festival-sized crowds alike.
While he’s globally known as a chart-topping titan of dance music, David Guetta’s origins belong to the underground house scene. Jack Back is the sound of Guetta going back to his roots, rolling back the years to his days as an up-and-coming DJ at the raves and underground clubs of Paris. Though originally appearing in 2012, the Jack Back alias first hit its stride in 2017 with a run of singles issued on the Jack Back label, and was fully explored on the full-length Jack Back Mixtape in 2018, which spawned the hit singles ‘Pelican’ and ‘Overtone’. An unfiltered passion project and now a headlining artist in his own right, Jack Back is what happens when one of the world’s biggest DJs makes music purely for the fun of it.
Decked in black masks and fearless in their studio execution, mysterious Grammy-nominated UK duo Wh0 have been seducing some of music’s biggest players. Having worked with artists including Armand Van Helden andKaren Harding and on labels including Universal, Ultra and Helix Records, the duo has become a prominent act in the UK house scene.
Roland Clark, who has previously collaborated on Jack Back and David Guetta singles, is known as a house music songsmith, producer, deejay and vocalist, all in one. Hailing from New York, some of Clark’s early recordings helped to define the underground house scene in NYC in the 90s, including the 1993 hit ‘Who Keeps Changing Your Mind’ under the alias South Street Player, while his latest alter ego Jesus Jackson pegged the 3rd season opening of the show Grey’s Anatomy with his song ‘Running On Sunshine’. His production contributions fuse together many artists’ best works, and he has worked together with other producers and artists such as Todd Terry, Katy Perry, Kenny Dope, Mark Knight, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Bob Sinclair, and many others.
When he’s not conquering the world with enormous dance behemoths, David Guetta is doing the other thing he does best: progressive underground house music. ‘The Walk To Church’ is his latest example: a pure and distilled slice of gospel-tinged house from Jack Back.
