Welcome back to Anjunabeats, Matan. Last seen on the label with his ‘No Words EP’ in 2018, London-born producer Mat Zo has earned a reputation over his career as one of the most innovative minds in the electronic scene.
Responsible for some timeless additions to the Anjunabeats discography – including his 2013 debut album ‘Damage Control’, and 2011’s collaboration with Arty ‘Rebound’ – Mat has never been one to be pinned down by the arbitrary confines of genre. From his beginnings on Anjunabeats, he’s gone on to conquer the worlds of drum & bass, ambient, electro and beyond.
One of the most sought-after tracks from Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 350 set, ‘The Next Chapter’ sees its full release (following a feature on Genix’s Anjunabeats Worldwide 09). Incorporating a sample from the legendary drum and bass MC GQ, ‘The Next Chapter’ has become a staple in the DJ sets of; Above & Beyond, Genix and Jody Wisternoff & James Grant.
Matan adds: “There was a period in the mid-2000s when trance was starting to get really dark. For ‘The Next Chapter’ I wanted to rekindle that dark trance energy. I added the GQ sample (of him MCing at Westfest) because it reminded me of a drum and bass roller, but in trance form.”
