Miami DJ, producer and vocalist Nitti Gritti returns with new double-single ‘Stay / What You Wanted’, out July 9th. The refreshing release comes alongside a music video of him performing both tracks live in-ode to 2000’s alternative garage rock.
Combining the big room electronic sound he has built his reputation around with the alternative rock that soundtracked his formative years, ‘Stay / What You Wanted’ sees Nitti Gritti go back to his roots. Opener ‘Stay’ perfectly encapsulates this meshing of these two sonic worlds, pairing high-energy power chords with euphoric dubstep drops and wobbling bass.
‘What You Wanted’ is a more emotionally-charged affair, opening with delicate acoustic guitar chords before making way for glistening synths and more jubilant breakdowns. The release draws parallels to his 2018 EP ‘Judge Me’, a full-frontal rock record that he recorded all of the guitars, drums, lyrics and vocals for.
“I actually learned drums and guitar from singing in church,” Nitti Gritti explains. “Then I started playing and writing alternative rock in a couple bands before I really learned to produce electronic music. So I actually am coming full circle back to my roots in rock music.”
It follows last month’s double-single ‘The Loud / Losing Count’, which featured Tampa bass favourite Blunts & Blondes, and ‘Bad Bitches’, a collaborative single with Marshmello and Megan Thee Stallion that has since amassed 1.8 million Spotify streams.
A name synonymous with boundary-pushing electronic music, Nitti Gritti is a Latin Grammy-winning producer, fan-proclaimed edit master and world-renowned DJ. He boasts an impressive and ever-expanding list of A-list collaborators, including Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, Diplo, Major Lazer, Bad Bunny, SAINt JHN, Dillon Francis, Shaquille O’Neal and more.
A dazzling melange of disparate musical genres, ‘Stay / What You Wanted’ is the work of one of dance music’s most versatile producers.
