This is not the first time Skrillex and Ty Dolla $ign have collaborated, but this one was special.
Skrillex and Ty Dolla $ign, teamed up with Virtual Riot and Ant Clemons for a tribute called “You See It.”
The track is a direct response in support to the Black Lives Matter protests rampantly going on around the United States and spreading further in the world as well. With the heartfelt lyrics sung in Clemons’ and Ty Dolla’s voices go,
“I know you see it, My people dying in the streets. They ain’t breathing,
I know you heard about it.
You know the issues, but the problem is you ain’t speaking.
How many more of my brothers, Do I gotta lose till I see change.
I know you see it, but we need change.
How many more of these mothers, Gotta lose they child till we fix things,
I know you see it, but we need change. ”
The end of the clip shared by Skrillex on social media shows actress and filmmaker Nia Miranda’s viral video calling out white protestors who were defacing property in Los Angeles of the protests in Los Angeles. You can also hear her say, “When you see stuff like that, you’re supposed to stand up and say something,” a phrase that is sampled and repeated at the end of the collaborative track.
Ty Dolla $ign also shared the same clip as Skrillex with the caption “Rip #georgefloyd and all the others that lost their lives to police brutality and injustice. Shits been happening for far too long now. It’s time for change and we demand it! @skrillex @antclemons @officialvirtualriot @nia_miranda and I made this last night hope u enjoy !”
The track that is clearly calling for reform against social injustice was recorded on the night of May 31 and holds a very powerful message in these times of distress.
