Ultra Naté ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ Drops Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

Ultra Naté’s smooth and soulful take on ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ is finally available as a standalone streaming single, thanks to Strictly Rhythm.

A beloved yet rare cover of the Bee Gees classic, this 1998 recording has been long overdue for a digital release. Originally appearing on the ‘Gotta Get A Message To You’ tribute album and later as a bonus track on Ultra’s 2001 LP ‘Stranger Than Fiction’, the track is now getting the attention it deserves as part of Strictly Rhythm’s retrospective series celebrating their collaborations with Ultra.

A Special Tribute to the Bee Gees

For Ultra Naté, this cover was more than just another recording—it was deeply personal. “From my earliest recollection, The Bee Gees were part of my teenage music lexicon,” she shares. “The ‘Saturday Night Fever’ soundtrack was a huge part of my life, and ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ always stood out.”

Fast forward to the late ’90s, when Ultra was invited to contribute to the Bee Gees tribute album ‘Gotta Get A Message To You,’ a charity project supporting disadvantaged children. The lineup featured some of the biggest UK artists at the time, including Steps, Boyzone, and Robbie Williams.

Choosing the Right Song

Ultra had a crucial decision to make: Which Bee Gees song to cover? While many expected her to pick an uptempo track given her dance music background, she went in a different direction. “I didn’t want to do something obvious. I wanted to honor the craftsmanship and emotion of the Gibb Brothers’ songwriting,” she explains. “‘How Deep Is Your Love’ is tender and iconic. It will forever make you fall in love.”

The Magic Behind the Production

To bring the track to life, Ultra turned to her longtime collaborators D-Influence. The production team, led by Kwame Kwaten, Ed Baden-Powell, Steve Marston, and Sarah Webb, crafted a stunning arrangement featuring lush piano chords, shimmering strings, warm guitars, and a delicate disco groove.

Kwame Kwaten reflects on the recording process: “This one is actually very special. We didn’t want to change the original arrangement too much, just elevate it in a way that felt fresh. Ed’s arrangements were on point, and Ultra’s vocals took it to another level.”

Ultra’s Unique Vocal Approach

One of the most striking aspects of this cover is Ultra Naté’s vocal performance. Her signature smooth yet powerful delivery brings a fresh dimension to the song while maintaining its heartfelt essence. “Whatever you think she’s going to do, she puts it in the ‘Ultra Blender’ and it comes out classically Ultra!” says Kwaten.

A Long-Awaited Digital Release

Although the cover has been adored by fans for years, it was never officially released digitally—until now. Strictly Rhythm has made it available on streaming platforms worldwide, allowing both longtime fans and new listeners to experience this timeless rendition. With its warm, romantic feel, the release is perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day playlists and radio rotations.

Ultra Naté’s Legacy in Music

With a career spanning over three decades, ten albums, and countless hit singles, Ultra Naté has cemented her place as one of the most legendary singer-songwriters in electronic and soul music. From her breakout hit ‘Free’ to her continuous contributions to house, disco, and soul, she has remained a powerful force in the industry.

What’s Next for Ultra Naté?

Ultra has hinted at an exciting 2025 ahead, with more new music, collaborations, and live performances on the way. This release is just the beginning of another monumental year in her already legendary career.
