‘Avocado’ is the debut single from Receptor on the imprint Evolution Chamber, the fresh drum & bass imprint which has already given audiences Magnetude’s ‘Mantis’, ‘Falling’ and Task Horizon’s ‘Disintegrate’.

The Russian stalwart, often described as the countries answer to Spor, has spent the last few years building up an arsenal of weaponry which he’ll now drop on a label brought together by the combined weight of his own work, alongside Task Horizon and Magnetude. Following in the wake of such successful records, ‘Avocado’ manages to hit the same high standards as its predecessors, although through the Receptor trademark which has enabled him to receive global recognition.

We caught up with Receptor in the wake of his single release and he gave us a run down of the tracks which he uses for inspiration.

1. Spor, Ewun & Evol Intent – Levitate

Spor & Lifted Music were two of my biggest influences when I started out so it would be criminal for me to not include them in my choices. I picked this track because it was known as the Lifted Music anthem and every time I hear this I am overcome with nostalgia of Spor playing this when he would perform in Russia and the crowd breaking into uncontrolled mayhem on the dance floor.

2. Sub Focus & Dimension – Desire

This track is the perfect example of expert and clinical song writing, laced with a catchy hook and riff. The main riff is almost contagious from the moment you hear it and you cannot get the melody out of your mind. Incredibly well-crafted and genius.

3. Golden Features – Medicate

Golden Features album ‘Sect’ I feel is one of the most slept on albums out there. The track ‘Medicate’ is literally made of gold and so well done. The drop is minimalistic, yet full of energy and the breakdown is so hypnotic, sensual and healing. If you have never heard of Golden Features, I highly recommend you check him out.

4. Ulterior Motive – Music City

When I listen to this tune, I feel like I’m in an animated action manga! This track has so much funk and swing and really takes you on a journey.

5. Upgrade – Blow

I am a massive fan of Upgrade and UK jump ip music. This track has all the characteristics I love about jump up – energy, catchy hooks and a very underground sound.

6. Pendulum – Girl In The Fire

‘Girl In The Fire’ is my favourite track from Pendulum’s ‘Hold Your Colour’ album which is one of my all-time favourite drum & bass albums. The way this track takes you on a journey from start to finish with the acoustic guitar melodies and with the talk box stabs then into the second drop where things get more electric – it’s so expertly done.

7. Disclosure – Latch (feat. Sam Smith)

This is one of those songs I’ll never get sick of listening to. I absolutely love the blend of oldskool house with a minimalistic fashionable and stylish drop and infused with the impeccable voice of Sam Smith. It sometimes reminds me of a time where things were just simpler for everyone.

8. Noisia – Shellshock (feat. Foreign Beggars)

‘Shellshock’ is probably my all-time favourite track from the Noisia guys. It combines heavy bass, sharp drums and immaculate production. There is no question that Noisia are undoubtedly going to be missed when they close their project at the end of 2020.

9. The Prodigy – Firestarter

The Prodigy in my opinion are the heart and the soul of electronic music and I feel influenced if not y ball, but the vast majority of today’s music producers, including myself. ‘Firestarter’ changed my life and was instrumental in making me want to write music when I was a child.

10. Little Big – Go Bananas

Sometimes I like to listen to music that isn’t ‘serious’ and more ‘fun’ and this track is just that, but in the best possible way.
