London artist Afro B, a key figure of the Afrobeat sound that continues to surge in global popularity, has unveiled the video for Drogba – the first single from his AfroWave 2 mixtape out on May 25th – a melodic and upbeat production that shares its name with one of Africa’s most important sporting figureheads; former Ivorian footballer Didier Drogba.
The single is also accompanied by an online dance competition known as the #DrogbaChallenge with fans urged to send in videos of their dance moves to the track, using the hashtag and an emoji of their national flag. The challenge has seen over 2000 entries from across the globe – reaching over 30 million people.
Starting his musical journey with a residency at a Jamaican club called NW10, the Londoner has since moved into producing, highlighting his talents as one of the industry’s most exciting curators around. Afro B has enjoyed a meteoric rise, channeling Ghanaian, Congolese, and French – on account of his Ivorian heritage – as influences. The South Londoner, who was recently announced as one of Capital Xtra’s new presenters, is heavily supported by the likes of Westwood, MistaJam, and Toddla T, and has become one of the scene’s most respected talents.
