One of Australia’s most eminent house producers, Alex Preston releases his new Get It Started EP revealing his sound re-invention. Out now on his own label, Basement Sound.
Shut away in the studio for months, Alex Preston has been creating an exciting new style of underground house. With undertones of tech and disco house, it features live guitar & bass with sampled percussion: “I wanted to make a new style of house music that I could play live for people. I want it to have a balance between live, sometimes improvised guitar, bass & percussion; and pumping dance-floor house.”
Alex takes us on a funk-filled journey kicking off the EP with title track Get It Started. Featuring a catchy vocal underpinned by melodic piano chords and salacious trumpet riffs the track gives a nod to the popular Detroit and Chicago house eras. Next up is That’s How I Feel, which takes on a deeper tech house approach, featuring Alex’s twist of intricate guitar licks accompanied by pulsing bleeps that complement each other throughout. Meanwhile, Around brings the live guitar element firmly to the forefront of the track with traditional disco inspired riffs that could impress at a multitude of events. Drawing the EP to a close is Take It Easy which takes on a minimal driving bassline, tremendous grooves and guitar solos infused with a fist pumping melody rounding the EP off on a phenomenal high.
Along with the sound re-invention, 2018 sees Alex Preston announce his new live show where elements used in his productions will make a live appearance to support his new style and releases. Expect live guitar licks, disco-tinged basslines and warm pulsating house beats as the multi-talented artist brings his productions to life. The new sound is already turning heads of tastemakers with rework of Marvin Gaye’s Heard It Through The Grapevine giving us a taster of what was to come, receiving the nod of approval from the likes of Fatboy Slim and Vanilla Ace.
