Benjamin Nichol Phipps, known professionally as Ben Phipps, is a twenty-six year old music producer hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden.
Currently living out of his adopted NYC home, Ben Phipps is at work expanding his creative universe defying previous expectations of his art. His unique style of production draws influence from elements that exists in deep house and mainstream pop music. In June 2015, Ben Phipps launched 14 & 9 Records, an artist imprint which would specialize in the global distribution and promotion of his original records.
With heavy radio support on Sirius XM, synch placements in television and film, and more than forty-million streams across his catalogue – The Ben Phipps project, as well as 14 & 9 Records were off to a solid start.
Now he returns with a seductive new collaboration “Mrs Mr” with LA-based singer/songwriter Lizzy Land. Lizzy Land’s soaring vocals work effortlessly in line with Ben Phipps’ luscious melodies, stirring textures, and layered electronic arrangements. From start to finish “Mrs Mr” never loses its balance in building a playful story of passionate love and romance.
Los Angeles (via Portland, OR) singer/songwriter, Lizzy Land has collaborated with a diverse array of artists and producers, including Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, Pnau), Matt Linesch (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes), and is currently finishing her debut EP with Taylor Lawhon (Pacific Air, Suede James).
Ben Phipps shares, “I was listening to music on Spotify and one of Lizzy’s songs was on my Discover Weekly. I really liked what I heard, so I reached out to see if she wanted to work on something with me. She came back with an idea that I loved, we spent a day in the studio together and boom, we had a song.”
In place of a traditional music video, Ben Phipps aspired to produce and direct a live-action lyric film taking place in his home, and across New York City. The piece was filmed by local filmmaker, Christian Lucas, and will be released September 4. Beyond this, Ben Phipps commissioned an official of the single from UK future-house producer, Jack LNDN.
With a combination of business acumen and musical hunger, Ben Phipps is quickly carving out a name for himself.
