Buzzing Russian producer Biicla has released the title track from his forthcoming EP – ‘Outside’ – which will be out on July 16th on TOKiMONSTA’s Young Art Records.
This is just Biicla’s second ever project, following his debut No Place EP in 2019. Biicla released the project’s first single – Getting High – earlier this month.
‘Outside’, the single, sets the tone for the EP, seamlessly blending sonic elements of future-bass with downtempo house, ripe with distorted samples and emotive synth melodies anchored by a hypnotic vocal loop.
It’s an eerily stirring track despite the absence of lyrics, a testament to Biicla’s production prowess that allows him to jump between genres without missing a beat. Outside is a reflection of Biicla’s mindstate while he was making the EP, embracing his own signature style that he’s honed in on over the past few years.
Biicla shared some words about the sentiments behind the single:
“In the continuation of the story No Place, Outside is about finding yourself. When I started writing electronic music, I didn’t even think that I would end up where I am now. ‘Outside’ is about my mood ,at the time when my brand new sound was being formed, so I decided to build the concept of this release around this single.”
Shortly after the release of the EP, Biicla will be embarking on his first official tour of the US. Making his official stateside debut at HARD Summer on August 1st, Biicla will then join TOKiMONSTA’s tour for a few dates in September and October; including shows in Seattle, NYC and Washington DC.
It’ll certainly be a radical lifestyle change; from living in isolation in a small, remote town in Siberia for the past year, to playing packed venues in premier venues across the US. Needless to say, Biicla is ready to get outside and see what’s next.
