Sophisti-Pop Husband/Wife Duo Lang and Renee Bliss’ rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On?” just received soulful treatment from Grammy-winning DJ/Producer Dave Aude and it is out on all streaming platforms.
“What’s Going On?” an original soul record by the “Prince of Soul” Marvin Gaye, was released in 1971 during the height of the Vietnam War. The lyrics strongly advocated for the de-escalation of war and propagation of love. Since the world is now in a kerfuffle due to most issues challenging it, the soothing words of the Motown prince turn relevant again. BlissBliss gave their own rendition of this soul classic this January and it is nothing short of Blissful.
Dave Aude has been around the scene since a long time. He is best known for his Grammy winning rendition of Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”. He has worked alongside industry greats like U2, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and many more. Dave Aude’s remix is included in a massive remixes pack which was released on 8th May. Give it a listen.
Although the Vietnam War is long over, the humanity has been facing a lot of turmoil on a regular basis and there has always been a dividing issue to challenge humanity. “What’s Going On” has always been lyrically and musically relevant for the same reasons. Renee Bliss’ vocals gracefully deliver the same soul in a much stronger sophisti-pop structure while Dave Aude delivers the much-needed house music makeover which adds a lot of fun and groove. House music has always been about spreading love and viewing the world with compassion. Fusing them resulted in a record that reinforces the idea of propagating love stronger than ever before. The second to none production quality from Dave Aude brings out the best of this synthesizer rich record. Overall, this is a message packed dance record that everyone needs to listen and move their bodies to.
