Chuck Roberts, best known as the man behind the iconic vocal “In the beginning, there was Jack…and Jack was the groove of all grooves…” in Rhythm Control’s ‘My House’, has been catapulted into the limelight once more, with Chicago house pioneer Terry Hunter preaching an inspirational 2018 cut of the legendary sample, on brand new release ‘In The Beginning (There Was Jack).’
The record, released via Ultra Music, features the redemptive vocals of Monique Bingham, and utilises Terry’s warm piano keys and rumbling chord loops entwined with strong gospel elements to create a summer floorfiller that displays all the golden commandments of house music.
Best known as a founding member of ‘Chosen Few DJs’, Terry Hunter is known as a soulful creator, who rose to prominence during the rise of Chicago house in the 1990s, remixing for top artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, and many more.
Working on 2011’s ‘Mass Destruction’ project with his friend and colleague, DJ/producer Kenny Dope, with whom he remixed Kanye West’s ‘Addiction’, Terry later remixed Marshall Jefferson’s timeless anthem, ‘Move Your Body’ before producing Jennifer Hudson’s 2014 Grammy-nominated smash hit, ‘It’s Your World’.
Since its origin, the Jack movement has continued to spread and grow stronger, making a return to Detroit, and continuing to inspire many through feelings of love and unity. From Rhythm Control’s 1987 original, through to the present, the soulful beats of the jack-house genre continue to prove timeless, transcending into the souls of the modern day raver, and answering the prayers of the faithful clergy who worship at the house alter.
