Label staple Direct today joined forces with singer-songwriter Harvey for their ethereal downtempo single, “I Love You” on Monstercat.
The track seamlessly blends Direct’s signature chillout stylings with Harvey’s sultry vocals, unraveling a love letter with a melancholic feel. Accompanied by haunting guitar licks, the atmospheric layers and soothing pads add to the emotional undertone, culminating in an authentic representation of true love.
Direct shares, “Harvey reached out to me pretty much out of the blue, and I fell in love with her body of work. I had the instrumental sitting around for a year, but I just couldn’t figure out how to crack it. I sent it over to her to see what she thought, and she immediately turned it around with what would end up being the final vocal. This is the sort of songwriting partnership you dream about, but it never works out this easy.”
Harvey adds, “Direct was amazing to create with, truly a carefree open minded collaborator from the beginning. The whole process was very intuitive and easy flowing for me because I could tell I was working with someone that genuinely loves creating with other people. I feel like I can sort of ‘read’ a person based on the type of music they create and when Direct sent me the instrumental for “I Love You,” I felt an emotional presence; enough to add the lyrics that I did and share an equally emotional side of me.
