Drake Fires Back at UMG and Spotify: “Are You Crazy?”

Drake Defies UMG and Spotify Amid Explosive Legal Battle

Drake isn’t backing down. The superstar rapper delivered a fiery statement during his Christmas giveaway stream with Adin Ross on December 26, addressing Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify amid an ongoing legal dispute.

With his mother, Sandra Graham, making a brief appearance on the stream, Drake declared:

“Any of you guys think you can finish me, from one man to the biggest corporation, you guys will never done me. Are you crazy? The most powerful force you ever seen in your life, me and her together.”

This defiant message underscores the tension surrounding allegations Drake has made against UMG and Spotify, accusing them of giving Kendrick Lamar an unfair advantage in their long-standing rivalry.

What’s the Legal Battle About?

Last month, Drake filed two pre-action petitions against UMG. Here’s what the dispute entails:

  • Streaming Bots and Payola: Drake claims UMG used bots and payola to artificially boost the success of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, Not Like Us.
  • Defamation: The rapper accuses UMG of defamation for releasing music that falsely portrays him as a pedophile.

The legal battle has expanded to include Spotify, with hearings scheduled for January 2025 in Texas and New York.

Spotify Fires Back

Spotify has denied all allegations, with their legal team asserting there’s “zero evidence” to support Drake’s claims. In a filing, they argued:

“The predicate of Petitioner’s entire request for discovery from Spotify is false. Spotify and UMG have never had any such arrangement.”

The platform also criticized Drake for filing pre-action petitions instead of a formal lawsuit, suggesting his claims lack substance.

Drake’s Lawyers Hit Back

In response, Drake’s legal team doubled down, accusing Spotify of attempting to distance itself from UMG’s alleged manipulative practices. They stated:

“If Spotify and UMG have nothing to hide, then they should be perfectly fine complying with this basic discovery request.”

This back-and-forth reflects the growing tension between Drake and the corporations he accuses of sabotaging his career.

What’s Next?

The court hearings are set for January 13 in Texas and January 16 in New York. These sessions will determine whether Drake can depose key figures at UMG and Spotify and move forward with his claims.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the dispute has reignited conversations about the influence of major labels and streaming platforms in the music industry.

A Heated Rivalry

The legal drama also shines a light on the long-standing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Fans are speculating whether the allegations of payola and defamation will further escalate the rivalry or lead to a public showdown in court.

Drake’s bold statements and legal maneuvers suggest he’s prepared to fight until the end, regardless of the odds stacked against him.

Stay tuned for updates as the legal battle continues to unfold.
