Ember Island x Radiohead – Creep

Ember Island

Covering a track and making it your own is no easy feat. When that single is one as iconic and as internationally recognised as Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, some may say it’s nigh on impossible. Yet rising Swedish three-piece Ember Island have not merely tackled the seminal British track, but have delivered what is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful cuts to emanate from their acclaimed fledgling discography. The band, consisting of Alexandra and fellow producers Didrick and Joakim, have already made a significant name for themselves with previous covers of Justin Bieber & Jack Ü’s ‘Where Are Ü Now’ and The Weekend’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face’. Radiohead sees the trio moving things up to an even higher level, and doing so with graceful and effortless aplomb.

Drifting gently on top of string, piano and muted percussive elements, singer Alexandra’s vocal is devastatingly dreamlike and surely close enough to perfection. Moving through lilting, barely-there phrases into grand, heart-breaking but yet still gentle and poised sections, her control over the tone of her voice is matched by the restrained underswell of melody and composition. Paired with a breathtakingly beautiful music video (premiered via Billboard), the immediately recognizable vocals of Alexandra come alive amid the stunning Nordic backdrop. Over the past year and a half it’s become increasingly apparent that the trio have an eye for delicate, yet striking creations across all artistic mediums.

The band, consisting of Alexandra and fellow producers Didrick and Joakim, have cornered a unique branch of the Indie Dance and synth-pop market, and are rapidly winning over fans across Europe and North America. ‘Creep’ makes the last cover from the band before the release of their highly anticipated debut EP this August. If ‘Creep’ is anything to go by, then music lovers are in for one of the most beautiful collections of music to be released this year.
