FrostTop is opening up a new chapter with the release of his debut single, “Dream State,” on NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud Vibrations.

Over the last few years, the Long Beach native has been chipping away at a stone-cold bass sound that has carefully come together like an ice sculpture gradually finding its final form. His notoriety started to fall into place on the back of a string of hard-hitting flips and frigid trap edits, which popped up on his cleverly named burner SoundCloud account, FrostTop’s Freezer. It didn’t take long for his own original ideas to thaw out, either. Soon after, he started to storm the space with a handful of icy-hot productions that led him a point where he knew exactly where his identity was headed.

“For so long, I’ve had a vision for my project that would represent myself, yet had a factor that people can associate with,” FrostTop writes in a message to his fans at the top of 2020. “I have been working day in and day out for the past year to build a world to share. I am so excited to share my ideas and my vision with everyone, and today marks the day where I can begin to do so. A new sound, new concepts, a new goal… all with a remnant of what came before.”

Coming off of that announcement arrives his first official appearance with the Gud Vibrations camp, “Dream State,” a spellbinding creation carrying the weight of his previous works but shown in a more refined light. The piece hurls itself out with lightly frayed percussive hits that unfold beneath militant drum lines, suspenseful pads, and a scattershot lead that gradually balloons up into the foreground. Once the riff moves out from the periphery, it stays transfixed as the focal point while a raw, guttural beat keeps you caught in its charm. Heavenly vocalizations and ethereal harmonies pull the pendulum back to the other end of the spectrum, before swinging back violently for another round of mesmeric mayhem.

It’s not the first time FrostTop has winded up with a release on Insomniac Music Group. He was tapped for remix duties back in 2019, when he went subzero on his take of ATLiens and Hairitage’s “Exterminate,” as part of the massive ‘Ghost Planet’ (Remixes) package on Bassrush Records. The following year, he laid the freeze on thick again via his official rework of “Snailclops,” the mammoth collab between SNAILS and Subtronics, featured on the ‘World of Slime’ Remix EP. Between his glacial remixes and original productions, the emerging talent has garnered support from Alison Wonderland, SHAQ, Snails, 4B, and the list continues to grow. And now with his new single landing on Gud Vibrations, FrostTop is letting it be known that this is just the start of a brand-new era.
