Multifaceted artist and sound engineer Icarus Moth has teamed up with electronic and rap producer and visual artist DEFFIE alongside R&B singer-songwriter Ehiorobo on the intimate new single, “Slow Truth”.

Arriving as their first collaborative track on Monstercat, the deep basses, emotive vocals, and vibrant synths meld effortlessly to form an addictive pop-driven groove. From LA to NY, the trio bring their distinct personalities and refined artistry to the record, with Ehiorobo’s passionate lyricism giving the tune a soulful edge, whilst Icarus and DEFFIE bridge the classic funk sonics with their forward-thinking production.

Icarus Moth shares, “‘Slow Truth’ marks a transitional aspect to my own project. It definitely is meant to be familiar, but we also went for a modern approach to where my music and pop music in general, seems to be going. We wanted to have something that takes the best elements of the older sounds, and then add synthesis, automation, and mixing techniques from more recent years that could create something new.”

DEFFIE adds, “The aim was to bridge a gap in between genres and to create something that demonstrates the future of music: multicultural, with influences from all kinds of styles. There’s a big retro revival going around right now, from Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars’ Silk Sonic, to Victoria Monet’s “Jaguar”. There’s a lot of intention, but I hope that people can just jam.”

Ehiorobo concludes, “I wanted to create something that certainly felt like pop music, something sweet that could be moved to, but something that also experimented with storytelling and style. The story of this song involved someone discussing drama in their life, but they’re ok with it. I think that’s a good drop of nutrition to lend to anyone. This is personally some of the most satisfying stuff I’ve written in a while.”

Having worked with the likes of KYLE, Masego, and Sam Gellaitry, platinum-certified DEFFIE has been honing his production craft since childhood. Based in LA, he’s toured the world and gained recognition from industry stalwarts like Soulection and Film Noir for his underground stylings.

carus Moth took up music early on as well and has lived his life on the piano. True to his roots, he’s now a music teacher at 343 Labs and his formidable alt-electronic sound has garnered releases with Mothica, MEMBA, Lenii, and others.

Nigerian-Dominican-Jamaican-American artist Ehiorobo rounds out the trio with his chameleonic sound as unique as his background. Traversing experimental R&B, rap, and noise-punk, his unconventional art brings a distinctive flair to the collaboration, attracting previous work with acts like Flamingosis, Sky Society, and omniboi.
