Brooklyn-based engineer/producer Icarus Moth has joined forces with the Toronto-based songstress SABRE for their entrapping new single “Quicksand”, an other-worldly trip into a genre-defying sonic universe.

Combining bright, punch synths with tight RnB vocals and harmonies, the song pays tribute to the Icarus Moth’s long history in future bass, glitch hop, and trap whilst opening the project up to new horizons in the RnB landscape, of which SABRE deftly navigates.

“Quicksand” is the promising follow-up release for Icarus Moth, who recently made his Monstercat debut with the track “Slow Truth”. The track, which featured soulful collaborations from notable vocalist Ehiorobo and multi-platinum producer DEFFIE, offers a new shift in Moth’s sound that is heightened by “Quicksand”.

SABRE’s vocals soar over Icarus Moth’s bright detuned saw waves, her soulful tone and rich harmonies entwined with pointed lyrics that celebrate young love. The duo offers a track that is both relaxed and triumphant.

SABRE herself hopes that in the wake of the song, people will feel a “great sense of adventure and escape”. It is, in fact, her first release since becoming a mother. “Triniti is now my NINE-month-old daughter,” she says. “In part, this song is about the joys of raising a child; just living for the simplest things.”

The song was produced in one session by Icarus Moth and frequent collaborator Blake Hotwagner (RadioRadio), who is featured on guitar throughout the song. They describe the experience as “a natural collaborative effort. We didn’t have any plans going into this. Our inspirations aligned in a manner that we were able to knock out the whole song just in a session.”

Icarus Moth offers up a great deal of praise for SABRE as well, saying she was “super quick and never out of ideas.
She was able to write 99% of the topline before we even finished composing, and record in one take. The best songs come together seamlessly, and this felt like one of those moments.” Indeed, the song features a hypnotic sound that traps listeners in, much as the name “Quicksand” implies.
