All clubs and nightlife venues in Spain and Italy are closing down again due to the recent COVID-19 spike in both nations.
Spain’s health minister Salvador Illa confirmed the shutdown on last Friday while the Italian counterpart Roberto Speranza announced the new restrictions on Sunday.
In a short dialogue with the Resident Advisor, “Sound Department” promoter Marcolino Manzulli expressed that the majority of cases did not come from the nightlife sector but from travellers returning from Greece, Croatia and Malta. He also stated that they are waiting for some form of governmental help but they are not hopeful towards that end. He concluding his response by stating that they are “scapegoats” in this scenario.
Spain and Italy were among the first countries to be severely hit with COVID 19. Both the countries opened up their clubs in July and Popular names like Nina Kraviz and Tale of Us have played in packed venues.
The Italian club shutdown will be continued till September 7th at the very least. The Spanish club shutdown will be observed until further notice is issued by the authorities. Many Spanish officials have also stressed that this shutdown might last until a vaccine is found.
