Jiqui tears a hole in the cosmos with his new ‘Dark Matter’ EP, serving as his debut three-track release for the Gud Vibrations crew.

Jordan Komarniski is a freak of nature in the low-end department. Known more readily by his lauded Jiqui moniker, the beast from Vancouver has been responsible for an onslaught of brain-tickling beats that never cease to make the fringes of dubstep feel like a second home.

With unrivaled sound design and a sterling reputation for keeping the filth on deck, the boundary-pushing producer has mastered the art of shattering expectations down to an exact science. He’s living up to that legacy on his triple-pronged release for NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s lauded Gud Vibrations label, which finds him splitting atoms with the nuclear force of his experimental, heavy-hitting sound.

The lead single “Push Back” has officially been on the loose for a little over a month now. However, its skull-cracking power has been felt well beyond its release back in February. Jiqui has been using the sinister cut to mop dancefloors with cranial fluid at a string of high-profile shows over the last year.

The track has also been doing damage for a tight knit circle of like-minded artists who were lucky enough to get their hands on the ID ahead of time, including Excision, Illenium, AFK, RUVLO, and, of course, the label co-founders that ultimately roped it in for their catalog.

“Busting” is one of two new originals featured on the package, and it’s the only co-produced number Jiqui decided to toss onto the EP. On it, he bands together with the paranormal duo Hi I’m Ghost to spread their seed all over a menacing mixture of mechanical synths, mischievous vocal samples, and razor-sharp riddim drops that make it impossible to hold back from blowing the proverbial load. It isn’t the first time this killer tag-team has been caught in the act together. Just a few weeks prior, they kicked out the wonk-fueled flames on “Snare Song”—coincidentally the only collab featured on Hi I’m Ghost’s ‘Raveyard’ EP for Bassrush Records.

As a true showman, Jiqui saves the main attraction for last. Closing out the show is the title cut, “Dark Matter,” heading straight into an apocalyptic vibe pulled straight out of the shadow realm. Rolling in slowly with a disturbing cinematic intro, the deep and twisted creation feels like it follows along the panting breathing pattern from directly inside the chest cavity of the beast itself. The ominous respiratory groove chugs through piercing pads, intricate drum arrangements, and croaking synths. Don’t be fooled by the minimal nature of this one, because the level of fear this one is packing is not to be taken lightly.

“Super excited to get this body of work out to the public,” says Jiqui. “Fans have really loved these tunes live and I’m pumped to bring them the finished product they have been looking for.”
