Electronic music has a bonafide new rising star, as producer and musician Kerala continues to turn heads and captivate hearts with his brand of beautiful electronic music. Inching closer to the release of his debut EP, the Denver-native returns with “What If” feat. Marie Lang, out now as a self-release.

“What If” illustrates an important piece of the human experience. The feeling of showing up for someone in a relationship, and not getting what you need in return.

This can happen in romance, friendship, and even family. We all know how this feels, and while it can be hard to handle initially, it often leads to periods of growth, and self realization. This realization is what sets the protagonist in my Escapism EP on their journey of self actualization and discovery!

“What If” is meant to provoke a feeling of nostalgia and catharsis. The instrumental composition came together very quickly on a beautiful Fall morning in Colorado last September. I was playing my acoustic guitar, pondering the beauty of change, and its necessity within one’s own personal journey… the concept which ended up becoming the underlying theme of the entire EP! – Kerala

With production emulating a fluttering heartbeat, the lyrics in “What If” express a deep desire for another person’s love and trust while simultaneously revealing a growing anxiety that those feelings might not be returned.

As it pertains to the Escapism story arc, Kerala’s newest single establishes the dilemma of our protagonist, setting the listener on a journey driven by musical motifs and thematic elements that flow throughout the entire EP. It’s a proper love song that can equally perform the duty of breakup soundtrack or empowering ballad.

Escapism will be out August 4th as a self-release. View the tracklist below:

Kerala is Colorado-based producer Jordan Evanoff’s first solo endeavor. After years of touring with jamtronica/electronic rock band Evanoff, Evanoff has branched off to explore different avenues of sound design.

His new sound is an uplifting cinematic indie-electronic experience, most closely aligned with the electronic pop & future bass genres, taking inspiration from pioneers such as Kasbo, Odesza and Forester.

The project’s mission is to provide euphoric and uplifting experiences through music, break down cultural boundaries, and explore the world in order to gain a better understanding of humanity.

Evanoff travels to and immerses himself in unique places, writing songs while attempting to manifest those experiences into sound. The first Kerala tunes were written when he was staying in a small jungle village in Costa Rica, which is also where the project was conceptualized. Since then, due to quarantine, his upcoming Escapism EP was written while exploring the Colorado mountains (expected Summer 2021).
