Today, Japanese-Australian electronic duo Lastlings, have released a four track Acoustic EP featuring reworked anthems from their debut First Contact album on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue Records and Astralwerks Records.
First Contact Acoustic EP provides live instrumentative renditions of their hit tracks “No Time”, “Deja Vu”, “Take My Hand”, and “Out Of Touch.”
First Contact Acoustic EP opens with the love-swept vocals of Deja Vu, a track that solidified Lastlings for many as breakthrough performers leading into the release of the album. Take My Hand’s acoustic rendition fully exposes the track’s raw emotion, a feeling that resides at the core of the album and within the ethos of the larger project. Out of Touch showcases the organic production that primed the album for mainstage triumph worldwide, with delicate guitar licks proclaiming the duo’s destiny for live-electronic stardom. The broken down version of No Time takes a step back to showcase Lastlings’ signature transportive lyricism.

These recordings are actually the first time we had stripped-back our songs to an acoustic level – live or recorded, so it was in some ways a new challenge for us. Initially we were nervous about playing these isolated parts, however we felt the songs took on a new breath of life – we were certainly pleased with the result and reaction from fans so far. We started with ‘No Time’ and from there we did ‘Deja Vu’, ‘Take My Hand’ and ‘Out Of Touch’. We had a lot of fun simplifying and bringing space to these songs that are usually full of more energy and layers of sounds.
Released this past November, First Contact remains massively received amongst fans and critics alike, earning 30 million streams across platforms and support from Forbes, Wonderland Mag, NME, triple j, and KCRW. Billboard calls the record “smart, deep, futuristic and a little bit celestial”, a fitting descriptor for a project based deeply in the immersive worlds of science fiction and narrative driven storytelling.
Lastlings’ momentum spilled rapidly into 2021, kicking off the year with a feature on SG Lewis’ track All We Have off his recent full length ‘times’ followed by the honor of remixing Bob Moses’ The Blame as part of their ‘Blame’ LP.
Championed by Grammy-nominated trio RÜFÜS DU SOL, Lastlings has been warmly welcomed to the band’s own label, Rose Avenue Records. Together with their three piece live setup featuring Josh on keys and guitar, a live drummer, and Amy on vocals, they have played career-defining sold-out shows alongside RÜFÜS DU SOL at Colorado’s Red Rocks, Los Angeles State Historic Park, Do LaB stage at Coachella and many other renowned venues.
It is no surprise that the emotive songwriting and forward-thinking production of First Contact has given the record a life past release date, further expanding the immersive Lastlings universe of connection and escape.
