Luca Morris is back on MJA the Vision with a thunderous new techno offering, The Elephant EP, a three-track endeavor that’s been engineered for peak-time destruction. This is his third outing on Clif Jack’s forward-thinking label and, for many, it will be his most powerful and polished contribution to date.
Luca Morris is a well-known veteran of the Italian techno scene. Starting his career in the ’90s, he has earned an excellent reputation with a blend of classic rave elements combined with state-of-the-art production finesse. Timeless in approach, he has released music on respected labels like Terminal M and performed at mythical venues such as Berghain. His sound has always originated from pure techno spirit: raw, hypnotic, and unforgettable; that is no different with The Elephant EP.
The title track “The Elephant” initiates the journey with a ceaseless surge of rolling acid basslines into a huge wall of energy. The tune has deep, rumbling sounds alike from an elephant, furthering the weight of the groove, while the hypnotic vocal loop keeps the tension high up. Every layer seems to be built and designed for dance floors where intensity is not negotiable. “Back to Love,” the second cut, instantly flips to a harsher, more aggressive tone.
Distorted synths slice through the mix, supported by heavy driving percussion. Ferocious it may be, but the breakdown surprisingly introduces an emotional touch in a brief yet powerful segment before slamming back into its full-force rhythm. It’s a track made to whip crowds into frenzy while still injecting a dose of feeling. EP closer “Core Pressure” is perhaps the most unrestrained cut of the three, with pulsating basslines, bold claps, and eerie, shadowy vocals creating a mechanical yet hypnotic atmosphere. An acidic breakdown brings an added layer of edge and cements the track as a raw, high-impact closer.
Luca Morris does indeed deliver a master class in peak-time techno that is energetic, bold, and unapologetically intense with The Elephant EP. If you’re a techno lover in search of your next weapon for the dance floor, then The Elephant is ready to stomp through your playlist.
