We saw the release of the first ‘Crossing Borders’ EP last year, which saw huge success. Now, the Dutch producer Mike Mago is back with part 2 of the collection, which features three varied tracks – the lead single – Give Me Your Love, Agora, and Space.
As Mike Mago was gearing up for the release of the ‘Crossing Borders’ EP pt. 2, it already witnessed quite a buzz, reaching #19 on UK’s taste-making Cool Cuts dance chart, with its tracks receiving widespread radio and DJ support, from Kiss Fresh, Gaydio, Kane and Rinse to artists like Don Diablo, Swanky Tunes, EDX, Fur Coat, Richy Ahmed, Freemasons, Anna Lunoe, Lost Frequencies, Gregor Salto and many more.
The lead single, Give Me Your Love is one that begins with a feel-good vibe as the vocals constantly keep you hooked to the feeling the track has to give you. It continues as the rich drop portrays a bouncy and bright production laced with piano melodies in the background. Groovy to say the least, it surely keeps your feet continuously moving.
Agora, starts off in an intimate fashion, with the melodies driving you into a space unknown. Led by some subtle drum works, the track ventures into a strong and dark phase, still maintaining the moody vibes it so consistently carries. It’s a track that manages to couple a dark texture and a happy feeling together incredibly well- a rare combination.
“The first Crossing Borders EP was released last year and my idea was to try and see if I could cross some genre borders but still keep a signature sound in one EP. It turned out super nice and I was really happy with it, although I felt it serviced more in creating a signature sound then that it really crossed a lot of borders genre-wise. I really liked the idea to make a bunch of tracks and conceptually find a match. I feel this second EP turned out really well at that point.” – Mike Mago
The final track of the pack, Space, is a perfect banger that brings about a fitting end to this versatile pack. Maintaining jumpy beats right from the beginning, the track gets up-beat, happy and all those nice things you’d like to say! With the bassy music, leading into a melodic interlude, the track seamlessly displays a variety in music production.
“I feel like internally I’m always torn between mainstream/pop and underground music, although these terms are pretty relative. I basically feel so much pop is cheesy and so much underground music is snobby. I just like the space in between where there are cool pop tracks, that are catchy yet original and where there are unique underground tracks that have a certain memorable and catchy element. There is an overlap somewhere there, where I like to be. I think this EP represents how I’m interpreting that area now.” – Mike Mago
Having been famous for creating a number of feel-good house tunes, Mike Mago is surging forward as a strong force in the scene. After his 2014 breakthrough hit single ‘Outlines’ (featuring Dragonette) took him to the stars, he continued to stay on top of his game, blasting out major tracks on his home imprint BMKLTSCH as well as work up some high profile remixes for Avicii, Clean Bandit and Ellie Goulding.
It’s a certainty that this pack will continue to make a lot of noise! Do you have friends who will admire well-crafted music? Share away right now!
