Following Mountain Bird’s recent release ‘Quit’, comes perhaps his darkest song ever, ‘Hiding Underwater’, set for release via Nettwerk.

The second installment to the Swedish artist’s upcoming EP ‘DearBrainLetMeSleep’, ‘Hiding Underwater’ is a powerfully melancholic rave-tinged anthem, with its deceptively dark lyrics such as “I often wish a second life. Where I was feeling better, showing all my feathers”, it showcases Adam’s strength of ability in writing deeply personal music that has the power to move.

Written after Mountain Bird (aka Adam Öhman) moved to Berlin and was struggling to settle there after a breakup with his longtime girlfriend, ‘Hiding Underwater’ is “about living with a depressive state of mind and somehow always looking at things from a perspective of melancholy”. On the title, Adam explains that, during the darkest of times, “I just want to jump down and sleep under the surface of the water where everything is quiet and calm for a little while.”

Adam continues: “I was in a really dark place when I wrote this. And at that time almost felt like hurting myself or do something worse was a good idea, but I got myself together. I just got so tired of always trying to cope with my brain the first thing in the morning and not just wake up and go you know… It’s like you have to tame a beast every time you’d wanna do something and therefore I wanted to swap my brain with someone. Just anyone.”

It’s this honesty within Mountain Bird’s music that makes his songs have such a deep personal connection, coupled with the fact that Adam is continuing to sing the vocals on his tracks himself, as opposed to working with session vocalists as he had done prior to 2019. ‘Hiding Underwater’ shows how Mountain Bird continues to create beauty out of the darkest of places.

Since his first releases in 2014, Mountain Bird has received radio airplay from BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Radio X, Absolute Radio, Amazing Radio, and garnered fans from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Clash, The 405, and Ja Ja Ja.

‘Hiding Underwater’ will be released via Nettwerk Records on August 16th, with a new EP ‘DearBrainLetMeSleep’ to come later in the year.
