MXGPU Release Debut Album ‘Sudden Light’

Lisboa-based electronic duo MXGPU, the musical collaboration of Moullinex and GPU Panic, have today unveiled their debut album Sudden Light on Discotexas.

Highly anticipated, the album is a powerful artistic statement, fusing introspective ballads, soundscapes akin to a film score, and dancefloor anthems into one unbroken narrative of emotion and identity.

Rooted in the sweeping single “into flames,” the album documents MXGPU’s philosophy of discovering beauty in fragility and intersubjectivity. Founded on sincere vocals and rich analog soundscapes, the song took on the emotional heart of the record. “‘into flames’ was the final song we completed for the record. It went through so many iterations until we found this one, and its soundscapes are the ones that feel closest to Sudden Light,” MXGPU said.

The 11-track effort covers a broad sonic landscape. Fan favorite “take me home” blends synthwave and electronica, and “find u” ventures into experimental liquid drum & bass. “slow down” reveals the duo’s serene side with entrancing rhythms, and new standouts include euphoric “ease” (sung by Malou), the propulsive “the fall,” and the nighttime “shout in the dark.” Finale track “symptom of u” winds the album to a contemplative close.

MXGPU characterize Sudden Light as “an interruption, a shout in the dark, a spark of transformation. Our coming together as Moullinex and GPU Panic, and step towards MXGPU.”

Sudden Light Tracklist:

  • take me home
  • ease (feat. Malou)
  • the fall
  • find u
  • into flames
  • shout in the dark
  • last call
  • little love
  • mrblz
  • slow down
  • symptom of u

The release was marked last night in Lisbon with a Sudden Light launch party in MXGPU’s hallmark 360° live format. The performance-interactive experience had the audience at the center, surrounded by sci-fi visuals, James Turrell-inspired lighting, and sound layers sculpted through Moog, Arturia, Teenage Engineering, and Dreadbox equipment.

With the album officially released, MXGPU are on the verge of expanding their live footprint. The two will make their U.S. debut later this month with headlining performances at Silo in Brooklyn (Oct 2) and The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles (Oct 4). The duo will also appear at Discotexas’ label showcase at E1 in London (Oct 10), with further European and international dates to be announced.
