Oasis are back – and apparently, they sound better than ever.
According to U2 frontman Bono, Noel Gallagher is stunned by how tight the band sounds as they gear up for their massive reunion run, the Oasis Live ’25 tour.
After years of very public feuding, Noel and Liam Gallagher have put aside their differences to bring Oasis back together. The tour kicks off on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales, and Bono, a close friend of Noel, has revealed some inside info from their recent rehearsals.
Speaking on Apple Music 1 with Zane Lowe, Bono said, “They’re both funny. I’m still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he’s kind of shocked by how great the band is sounding at rehearsals. I think we’re going to have a good summer.”
It’s a huge statement coming from someone who’s been in the game as long as Bono, and it’s clear he’s genuinely excited about the band’s return. “I love them. I just love them,” he said. “And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten into indie music – they just blew it out. There was just the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamorising it.”
Bono also reflected on Oasis’s unique blend of attitude and rhythm. “Remember what they did. Those big guitars, big Neil Young generous sounds. They were against the law in the UK, and they’re like, ‘No, I have to do what I f***ing want.’” He added that there’s a raw groove to their music that a lot of people miss, especially outside of the UK. “Manchester was very influenced by dance music, so they were groovier than anybody. They were rawer than anybody.”
He even recalled visiting Noel’s flat with U2’s guitarist, the Edge, back when Definitely Maybe was just breaking. “It’s literally a basement flat,” Bono said. “And Noel’s like, ‘Yeah, you’re the Edge! Wow!’ And Liam’s… whatever.”
While Oasis made their mark in the UK and Europe, Bono believes America never fully got the message. “Oasis’ message didn’t get through to America… so this is going to be, like, their first real tour in the US. People there are finally going to understand how great they are.”
The Oasis Live ’25 tour spans the globe, with stops across the UK, Ireland, North America, Asia, Australia, and ending in Brazil in November. For fans old and new, it’s a rare chance to see one of Britain’s most iconic bands back on stage – and if Bono and Noel are right, they’ll be better than ever.
