Noisia – Mantra (Official Video)

Dutch electronic music trio, Noisia, have released a powerful video to accompany their new single – Mantra.

Directed by Dutch filmmaker, Sil van der Woerd, the video depicts the struggles faced by refugees and migrants as they travel to the UK and Western Europe from Africa and the Middle East. Shot on location in Sicily and the Netherlands, the video features a cast of former refugees and migrants from Afghanistan, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia and Syria. These included the artist Khattar Shaheen, the journalist Anwar Manlasadoon, and performance artists.

The video was Van der Woerd’s idea. He’d previously worked on Noisia’s ‘Tommy’s Theme’ promo, and when the band approached him for a concept he produced a detailed treatment. Once the project received the green light, Van der Woerd worked alongside executive producer, Angelo Schuurmans, who’d, previously, helped refugees in Greece and who runs a foundation that focuses on migrant integration in the Netherlands.

Noisia recently released the CD and vinyl versions of their new album ‘Outer Edges’. They were forced to rush release the digital download and streaming versions on 5th August, after the album leaked and appeared online. The 18-track album is their first in six years and was originally scheduled for release on 16th September.

Noisia launched their ‘Outer Edges’ tour at the Czech Republic’s Let It Roll festival, and the trio’s new audio visual touring concept, featuring their biggest production to date, has since hit Sziget, Pukkelpop, Lowlands, and SW4, with a headline show during ADE at Melkweg (21/10). They’ll be bringing their ‘Outer Edges’ audiovisual show to Groningen, Eindhoven and London later this year.
