Uniting for their sixth collaboration, Ruth Royall and Axel Boy tap into a fresh and summer infused sound for new single ‘Dancer’ via NewState.

A force of nature and vocal powerhouse, songwriter, DJ and producer, Ruth Royall has risen up the ranks over the past year. Nominated for the Drum and Bass Arena Awards ‘Best Vocalist’ and dropping her first official remix of DJ Fresh and Used’s Higher, which saw KISS FM and BBC Radio 1 play, Ruth is only just getting started.

Fresh off a recent International Women’s Day mix on KISS FM and the launch of her Keep It Real podcast this month that delves into feminism, the music industry, empowerment and more off the back of her body positivity #keepitreal social media movement last year, the multi-faceted artist looks toward a year filled with promise.

Since recording at the infamous Abbey Road Studios, the producer and vocalist has channelled her rich jazz and soul background into powerful creations that have found their home on every major D&B label including Hospital, Shogun, Soulvent Records, and Metalheadz.

Initially flourishing in the dance music world as the frontwoman of Bristol-based electronic music collective Paper Dragon, Ruth soon began to conquer the scene joining Fred V & Grafix on their 2018 farewell tour and collaborating with massive names like Mollie Collins, Grafix, Pola & Bryson, Macky Gee, David Zowie, BCee, Nookie, Eko & Sidetrack, and more.

Ruth Royall’s production debut in recent months has earned her consistent support from BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo, Charlie Tee, Danny Howard, Jeremiah Asiamah, and Jack Saunders who hailed her as his Next Wave Artist. Elsewhere, she’s seen massive backing from KISS FM’s Fred V landing his Future Selection slot as well as support from Kerrie Cosh and Hybrid Minds, demonstrating the hype around her as she only continues to progress for 2023.

Meanwhile, following latest single Find The Time where he debuted his own vocals, Axel Boy has made huge waves in the industry with his euphoric and melodic takes on bass music. After finding initial success in America, the producer transitioned his mastery of house, dubstep, and D&B back to his hometown of Bristol, landing collaborations with the likes of Dread MC, Jauz, Borgore, Macky Gee and more.

Known for blending melodic synths with hard-hitting bass lines, Axel Boy has landed releases on notable labels including CruCast, UKF, Universal, Armada, Buygore, Viper, RAM, Jauz’s Bite This!, Slander’s Gud Vibrations, and NGHTMRE. Tracks like Another Level with Macky Gee have amassed over 2M Spotify streams whilst Don’t Be Shady with fellow Bristol talent Dread MC and Try Me has collected over 1M Spotify streams.

On the live front, the producer has developed his skills performing at venues like London’s Ministry of Sound, Printworks and XOYO, Sheffield’s Tank alongside Bou and others, Chicago’s Concord Music Hall with Borgore, LA’s Sound NightClub, and Bristol’s Basement 45. His outreach extends beyond his release schedule, recently completing a D&B masterclass via the DNB Academy that expands on the process behind creating his tracks and is an active Patreon educator and creator.

The two Bristol legends now come together for a magnetic, feel-good D&B cut. Previously finding success together with singles like Oxygen, rising tastemakers Axel Boy and Ruth Royall present a snappy and exhilarating anthem packed with potential. Featuring energetic percussion, dashes of wobbling bass, and enticing, carnival ready vocal hooks, Dancer makes for a night to remember.

Ruth Royall & Axel Boy – ‘Dancer’ is out 24th March via NewState.
