In February, Berlin-based singer-songwriter Sumera partnered with Don Diablo’s HEXAGON imprint to release “Animal,” the slow-burning first track in a three piece sonic story.

With millions of streams and views on the video, the track was a new direction for the label and a striking collaboration for the pair. The project revolves around confronting the strength and fragility of desire, as well as the physical memory of someone’s presence. Now, she returns with the second track in this story – “F A i T H.”

A self-proclaimed, “Wild Feminist,” Sumera tackles the idea of what it means to be an empowered woman in the 21st Century. As a self-made woman, writing, producing and creatively overseeing her music, Sumera details the constant push and pull in the fight to liberate herself of “all that oppression and that guilt and that shame that historically silenced and executed [women].” All of these ideals are clearly brought together as she explores what it means to fully connect with another human being – on a purely sensual level – in the intimate, brooding, and delicate “F A i T H.”

A wanderer at heart, Sumera has traveled all her life. She spent the past few years alternating between Berlin, Amsterdam, Lisbon and London, gaining an understanding of the industry and her own creativity, as well as developing her own sound. Both self-contained and wild, Sumera has used Berlin’s pulse and atmosphere as the backdrop for her latest work. Using the melancholy and yearning of the city’s lonely nights as inspiration, her songs have become more intimate and personal than ever. Her music draws upon her mixed heritage of Caribbean, Colombian, and Portuguese, while also taking influence from artists such as Fado, Björk, Kate Bush, and the Amália Rodrigues.
