We’re only two months into 2019 and DJ/producer duo Wh0 have dropped a selection of cuts which show that this year will continue the success they’ve built in less than twelve months.
And these twelve months were only just the start for Wh0, a pair who’ve come from near obscurity whilst donning masks and hiding their identities. Their anonymity has meant that it’s just their music which has done the talking, something which Wh0 are clearly committed to doing. If you look at their back catalogue you can clearly see just how hard the production outfit has been working to establish themselves within a cut-throat industry. However, after being asked to remix tracks for dance music behemoths Basement Jaxx, as well as many other titanic scene players, Wh0 already began their career at an enviable height.
Releasing on the likes of Toolroom, SubSoul and 3Beat Wh0 are no strangers to mainstay imprints, but it’s also their own ‘Wh0 Plays’ label which has seen some of their best work to date. Already ten months in and tracks like ‘Scream’ and ‘Sound Bomb’ on Wh0 Plays helped elevate the artists and prove that despite marking their place within some big catalogues, their also able to stand on their own two feet. It’s the quality of their music which has enabled this to happen.
For their second release of 2019, following ‘gReEdY’ on SubSoul, Wh0 return to their roots. ‘Mary’s Poppin’ was the first track Wh0 wrote as a partnership and it highlights the commitment they have to their beginnings. Once again it channels the same thumping bassline which has become a staple of their production and the track’s playful feel comes through in every explosive segment, alongside its chiseled grooves. With the Ibiza season slowly drawing closer, ‘Mary’s Poppin’ will only grow the anticipation around its opening week; it also marks the start of a very special set of dates for Wh0, carrying on their 2018 ascent.
