Yungblud is known for being bold, but with his upcoming album Idols, he’s taken things to a whole new level-including chatting with ghosts.
The 27-year-old rocker, real name Dominic Harrison, recorded part of the ambitious double album in a reportedly haunted converted brewery in Leeds. And he’s not kidding about the supernatural side of things.
“I like the ghosts. I talk to the ghosts,” he told Louder. “It was, like, ‘This f****** feels right.’”
The location wasn’t random. After his American label didn’t quite understand the direction of the songs he was working on-a mix of Britpop, classic rock, orchestral elements, and heartfelt ballads, Yungblud returned to his roots. The haunted former Tetley brewery in Leeds, not far from his hometown Doncaster, gave him the gritty northern energy he needed to reconnect with himself.
“I needed to be in the north,” he explained. “Timothy Taylor’s ale and my best mates and the smell you get in northern England when the rain bounces off the gravel because the roads haven’t been tarmacked properly for years. I needed all that just to be, like: ‘Who the f*** are you, man, as a human?’, without anybody else’s opinion, good or bad.”
He’s not playing by the usual music industry rules this time. Idols isn’t built for chart-topping singles. It’s built to make a statement.
“It’s the most ambitious I’ve ever been,” he said. “I went there with this: ‘I’m going to put everything I’ve got into this shot at doing something extraordinary.’”
That means aiming for something that stands up next to iconic concept albums like Dark Side Of The Moon, Rumours, and A Night At The Opera. With a clear story, structure, and artistic vision, Idols is Yungblud’s shot at the “big boys’ table,” as he puts it-a chance to leave a legacy, not just a few Spotify hits.
Part one of the double album drops June 20, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most daring releases of 2025. From ghostly inspirations to gritty hometown energy, Yungblud’s Idols promises to be an unapologetic, emotionally raw, and sonically ambitious record.
Whether or not the ghosts contributed to the writing process, one thing’s clear, Yungblud is all in.
