Diddy Seeks Dismissal of Dawn Richard’s $50 Million Lawsuit
The lawsuit accuses Diddy of serious allegations, including sex trafficking, forced labor, emotional manipulation, and fostering a hostile work environment. However, Diddy’s legal team has dismissed these claims as “ludicrous” and legally baseless.
Lawsuit Details
Richard’s accusations stem from her time with Danity Kane between 2004 and 2011. She claims Diddy subjected her to emotional manipulation, financial exploitation, and coercive practices, creating a toxic work environment.
Diddy’s attorneys argue that the claims fail to meet legal thresholds and are outside the statute of limitations. “Even if the outrageous facts alleged were true (they are not), they do not support Richard’s claims,” said his legal team in a court filing.
Statute of Limitations and Signed Releases
A major point in Diddy’s defense is the statute of limitations. His lawyers argue that most of the alleged events occurred over a decade ago and are thus not eligible for legal action. They also highlighted that Richard signed multiple releases, including one in October 2021, waiving her rights to pursue claims against Diddy.
“In October 2021, Richard released all of her claims against [Diddy] that existed as of that date,” stated Diddy’s attorney, Erica A. Wolff.
Counterattack: Diddy’s Defamation Lawsuit
In addition to seeking a dismissal, Diddy has filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Richard, accusing her of sensationalizing past grievances. His legal team argues that her claims lack credibility and aim to tarnish his reputation.
“At most, [Richard’s] complaints suggest she was underpaid and subjected to difficult work conditions, which do not constitute forced labor,” the filing stated.
Ongoing Legal Battles
This lawsuit follows the recent dismissal of a $400 million lawsuit against Diddy. His legal team is using a similar defense strategy, emphasizing both the timing of the allegations and the signed waivers absolving him of liability.
As the legal drama continues, the court’s decision on whether to dismiss Richard’s lawsuit will be closely monitored. The case sheds light on the ongoing challenges of navigating power dynamics, accountability, and allegations in the entertainment industry.
