The music festival scene is Goa has constantly been hit by one issue or another. Now, the Goa unit of the Shiv Sena has called for an end to the EDM festival culture in the state. The Shiv Sena Goa spokesperson Rakhi Prabhudesai said that government should not give permissions for the EDM festivals which are being misused by drug peddlers to make money.
“The state government should not allow EDM festival this year, which would be the first step to clean the tourism from the menace of drugs,” Ms. Naik said.
The state had given permission for the Timeout festival to happen at Vagator last year, which happened after Sunburn and Supersonic shifted their homes from Goa to Pune.
Talking about the increasing drug menace in Goa, Ms. Naik said “Sena has been vocal about the increasing drug menace in the coastal belt like Calangute, Anjuna and Pernem due to the utter failure of local police stations in curbing it”
The music festival scene in Goa promotes a lot of tourism activity especially during the end of the year. Although there may be illegal drug-dealing activities, shutting down the festivals isn’t a solution by itself. We believe, with stronger enforcement and vigilance from the police forces, the situation can be taken care of.
