Lollapalooza came to life for the first time in 1991 and was founded and started by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band. The festival continued with this format as a touring festival which ran annually until 1997 and then went quiet until it was revived and returned for a year in 2003. In 2004, the festival organizers decided to expand the dates to two days per city, but poor ticket sales forced the 2004 tour to be cancelled.
From 2005 onwards, the festival found its home at Grant Park, where it has been continued to be held ever since. Lollapalooza has continued to grow and for its 25th anniversary in 2016, the festival extended from three days to four. From 2010 onwards, the festival began to spread its wings and expanded across borders. From editions in Santiago to São Paulo and Berlin to Paris, Lollapalooza has grown to show its worth.
What started as a purely alternative rock festival years ago has now grown to be one of the top festivals to look out for with a diverse lineup across genres and satiating the tastes of varied music aficionados.
