A Historic Night at AMF
The crowning moment took place during the Amsterdam Music Festival (AMF), produced by Insomniac Europe. Garrix took to the stage following an electric performance by fellow DJs Monocule, Tita Lau, Wade, and Marlon Hoffstadt. The world watched as DJ Mag streamed live from various international locations, culminating in the grand reveal at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The 2024 edition of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll attracted millions of votes from electronic music fans around the globe. The climax of the poll saw Garrix receiving the coveted No.1 award, handed to him by none other than Armin van Buuren himself. The significance of this moment was not lost on Garrix, who humbly accepted the award and reflected on the magnitude of his achievement.
“I’m on the list with all my idols. I look up to Armin, I look up to Tiësto. To be in there with those guys is very surreal,” Garrix said. “My biggest worry when I entered the list, and topped it, was that it could only go downhill from here, so it’s very special we’re back at the No.1 spot.”
Garrix’s Remarkable Year
Garrix’s fifth win comes after a phenomenal year where he held down his seventh consecutive headline residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza and performed at festivals across the globe. One of the most notable moments in 2024 was his music being featured during Coldplay’s Saturday night headline set at Glastonbury, where they covered Garrix’s track “Breakaway.”
As the youngest DJ to ever be crowned No.1 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, Garrix continues to push the boundaries of electronic music. He remains a fixture on the mainstages of festivals worldwide, further solidifying his place at the top of the EDM scene.
AMF and the Future of Dance Music
AMF has become synonymous with electronic dance music’s biggest moments, and Garrix’s latest victory at the festival underscores its importance. Hosted by Insomniac Europe, AMF continues to be the highlight of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), drawing thousands of fans and showcasing the very best in EDM talent.
Following Garrix’s victory, a stellar lineup that included Tiësto, Timmy Trumpet, Maddix, and Showtek (with an exclusive hardstyle set) kept the energy alive, turning AMF into the biggest party of ADE 2024.
A Tied Legacy
With five No.1 DJ titles, Martin Garrix joins Armin van Buuren at the top, both Dutch DJs now tied for the most wins in the history of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll. This historic tie not only honors their past achievements but also sets the stage for an exciting future in electronic music. As Garrix and Van Buuren continue to inspire the next generation of DJs, the landscape of dance music looks brighter than ever.
As Garrix concluded his headlining set at AMF, fans were left with the reminder that the journey of a DJ is never over, and for Martin Garrix, the future is sure to be filled with even more groundbreaking moments.
