Sean Diddy Combs Lawyers Push for Gag Order Following “Outrageous” Witness Claims
In the ongoing high-profile case against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, his legal team is pressing for a gag order to curb media statements from witnesses.
Combs, who is facing charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking, celebrated his 55th birthday in jail, where he awaits his May 5 trial.
Recently, a witness in the case claimed to have video evidence implicating Combs in various alleged crimes. The unnamed witness, along with their attorney, has made multiple public statements, which Combs’ legal team argues are false and severely prejudicial. The attorneys leading his defense, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, filed a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, stating that “improper pretrial publicity” has surged and risks undermining Combs’ right to a fair trial.
Grand Jury Witness Makes Bold Claims, Defense Pushes Back
Combs’ attorneys assert that the witness has been spreading “outrageous” claims without legal verification, including statements that they possess videos of Combs involved in alleged assaults on celebrities and minors. Combs’ legal team firmly denies these allegations, arguing that such statements have created a harmful media narrative and tainted the public’s perception of Combs.
In their filing, the attorneys noted that these “unchecked claims” have fueled online speculation, further harming Combs’ reputation and prejudicing potential jurors. “This witness – who has never even met Mr. Combs – claims that he received the tapes from an unnamed individual (since deceased) along with a purported memoir of the mother of Mr. Combs’ children,” the defense team stated, calling the witness’s actions a “pathetic extortion scheme.”
Legal Maneuvering as Combs’ Defense Seeks Fair Trial
This is not the first time Combs’ attorneys have sought restrictions on media dissemination in the case. In an earlier motion from October, they requested limitations on federal law enforcement leaks to the media, citing concerns over statements related to Combs’ alleged “freak-offs.” While Judge Subramanian declined that initial request, he emphasized that both sides must abide by rules prohibiting the release of non-public information that could compromise a fair trial.
The legal team has also highlighted an allegedly falsified book that purportedly contains entries from Kim Porter, Combs’ ex-girlfriend. This book, which was briefly available on Amazon, included details that Combs’ team argues were “fake” and used merely to add fuel to the case against him.
What’s Next for Diddy’s Defense Strategy?
The current motion for a gag order will be decided in the coming weeks, as Combs’ legal team continues its efforts to limit the impact of publicized allegations on his right to a fair trial. Given the intense media interest and the wide-reaching claims being circulated, Combs’ attorneys are adamant about maintaining courtroom integrity and shielding the proceedings from further speculation.
With the gag order, Combs’ legal team hopes to limit comments from witnesses and their attorneys, ensuring that any evidence presented is properly verified and contained within court confines. They argue that without this order, the integrity of the case—and Combs’ defense—could be further jeopardized.
As the trial date approaches, all eyes remain on how the court will handle this latest request, and whether further public statements will be curbed. Combs’ defense, meanwhile, continues to stress the importance of a fair legal process, free from what they consider “sensationalized” public narratives.
