TikTok announced it will be launching an artist-friendly music distribution platform called ‘Sound On’ which will give artists access to promotional tools and professional support, all while having to pay no fees!
They also promised that for their first year, artists will maintain 100% ownership of their music, and be given 100% of the royalties, and from there on it will be 90% of the royalties.
This move will mean that not in addition to uploading their music to the more known giants of streaming music like Apple Music, Spotify, and more, now artists will be able to upload their music straight to the native music streaming service by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance.
Best described as on its official website, “SoundOn is an all-in-one platform for marketing and distribution, helping you build a career and find new fans through TikTok, exclusive partners (Resso, CapCut), and on other digital streaming platforms through our global distribution service.”
While highlighting the benefits of using SoundOn further, the website explains, “TikTok creators are the lifeblood of our platform and the reason sounds become hits… When you release through our platform, our team will activate diverse creators to make videos with your track. This helps you broaden your fanbase and reach new communities that these creators are a part of.”
In an official statement, Global Head of Music at TikTok Ole Obermann said, “New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career. Our SoundOn teams will guide creators on their journey to the big stage and bring the expertise and power of TikTok to life for the artist. We’re incredibly excited about how this will surface and propel new talent and how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and growing global music industry.”
Currently, SoundOn which was in Beta testing through the Fall of last year is now fully available in the US, UK, Brazil, and Indonesia. Interested artists can register themselves at soundon.global
