Tomorrowland officially got the green light to expand from 2 to 3 weekends in 2022.

To recover from the losses of having to cancel the festival over 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. This however will be only for 2022 and not a recurring event, as shared by Tomorrowland representative, Debby Wilmsen.

As Debby told Billboard, “The province of Antwerp has given us green light to organize three weekends of Tomorrowland in 2022, so only in 2022. All weekends will be in July, so we add one extra weekend before our traditional two last weekends of July.”

She also went on to say, “We can now start our preparations. At the moment there are no names known, but we are working on that now. The festival stages will remain the same during the three weekends, but the line-up will change slightly per weekend depending on the availability of the artists. But whether you come on the first, second, or third weekend, you will be able to enjoy a mix of established values and new talent.”

This means in addition to July 22-24 and July 29-31, Tomorrowland 2022 will also take place for the additional weekend of July 15-17 in its festival home in Boom, Belgium. Antwerp has jurisdiction over the city of Boom, where the festival is held in the park De Schorre, and Rumst, the nearby city where the festival’s camping area, DreamVille, is located.

As reported by DJ Mag the application that was submitted to the municipalities of Boom and Rumst, as well as to Antwerp, cited the reason as “economic necessity to compensate for the cancellations” as an argument for why the festival should be able to go ahead for three weekends in 2022. Those in charge of handing out permits have now deemed the application as sufficient to extend the festival to three weekends.
