UPDATE: Tomorrowland 2020 has been cancelled. Read the official statement, here.
Belgium’s National Security council is likely to take a decision against the happening of summer festivals due to the COVID 19 outbreak.
According to Federal Minister of Domestic Affairs Pieter de Crem, Mayors of Municipalities of Boom and Rotselaar requested the federal body to act swiftly and take decisions regarding the summer festivals that are about to take place in the constituencies.
While speaking on Walloon Radio, De Crem spoke the following way,
“The mayors are expecting a decision from the National Security Council to clarify the situation. The decision should be formalised by the Council as soon as possible. So, unfortunately, they should expect a cancellation,”
Aarstelaar Municipality Mayor – Sophie de Wit has expressed that she isn’t asking for a cancellation of festivals as it is not her responsibility. However, the local mayor of Boom has expressed his concerns over the happening of the event and has called it unlikely due to the pandemic concerns all across the country.
There is no official statement from the Belgian government or Tomorrowland organizers at this point and although this is a sad time in dance history, decisions are taken based on greater good of the country and hence the world.
