The legal troubles surrounding Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs continue to mount, but one high-profile attorney has made it clear he wants no part in defending the music mogul. Joe Tacopina, the lawyer who successfully defended A$AP Rocky in his 2021 felony shooting case, has revealed that he was approached to take on Diddy’s case – and flatly declined.

His reason? Strong ties to Jay-Z and Roc Nation.

Tacopina’s Loyalty to Roc Nation

During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Tacopina explained why he turned down the opportunity to represent Diddy in his sex trafficking and racketeering case.

“I represent Roc Nation; a lot of people in Roc I’m very close with,” Tacopina stated. He emphasized his relationships with Jay-Z, Roc Nation president Desiree Perez, and Jay Brown, adding, “That’s sort of family to me, and I don’t think they see eye to eye with P. Diddy.”

His comments also hinted at growing tensions between Diddy and Jay-Z, despite their past collaborations. “Everyone wants a picture with P. Diddy at one time or another,” Tacopina noted. “But when things got real, years and years ago, that’s a different story.”

Diddy’s Legal Battle Continues

Diddy is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Prosecutors allege that he led a criminal enterprise, using violence and coercion to control his victims. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, has denounced the charges as an unjust prosecution, stating that Diddy moved to New York in full cooperation with authorities. “These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide,” Agnifilo claimed. However, the prosecution insists that Diddy’s criminal network ran far deeper than previously known.

Tacopina’s Decision Sparks Speculation

Tacopina’s refusal to represent Diddy has sparked speculation about why so many in the industry are distancing themselves from the fallen mogul. His ties to Jay-Z and Roc Nation suggest that powerful figures in hip-hop want no association with Diddy’s mounting scandals.

The case is set to go to trial in May 2025, and as more details emerge, the industry continues to watch closely. With Tacopina stepping away, it raises the question – who else is walking away from Diddy’s empire?
