Young Thug’s father, Jeffrey Williams Sr., has been a constant source of support throughout his son’s lengthy legal battle.
Despite being grateful for his son’s release from jail, he expressed disappointment with the conditions of the plea deal, especially the decision to enter a non-negotiated guilty plea. Since Young Thug’s arrest in 2022, the case has drawn national attention, and Williams Sr. has been vocal about his belief that his son should have continued fighting.
Williams Sr.’s Reaction to the Plea Deal
Speaking outside the courthouse, Young Thug’s father, Williams Sr. shared his reaction to the plea deal with Atlanta news outlet 11Alive. “Well, I was kinda startled behind it,” he admitted. “I wanted him to keep fighting. Let’s make them continue to embarrass themselves, but at the same time, I never tried to interfere with his decisions, and I support him.” Williams Sr. emphasized that while he disagreed with the decision, he respects his son’s choices and has always supported him throughout his life.
Throughout the trial, Williams Sr. made public appearances to show support for his son and other YSL members, including Gunna. As Young Thug’s father, he has been unwavering in his belief that his son should have had the chance to prove his innocence without entering a plea.
Conditions of Young Thug’s Release
One of the most significant conditions of Young Thug’s release is that he is prohibited from returning to the Metro Atlanta area for 10 years. This restriction has been a major point of frustration for Williams Sr., who sees it as an unnecessary punishment. “I’m totally against that, because this is where he’s from. To have a district attorney take that away from him is offensive to me,” he said, wearing a hat supporting DA Fani Willis’ opponent, Courtney Kramer, in the upcoming election.
Williams Sr. expressed his frustration with the current district attorney’s office, urging the public to support change. “In order for us to get back to our normal life, we’re gonna have to put in some more work. But the work that we need to do foremost for the city of Atlanta, Fulton County? We need to get rid of the poison that’s in our system, and that’s the district attorney’s office, so vote Courtney Kramer,” he urged.
Supporting Gunna Throughout the Case
Williams Sr. has also supported Young Thug’s friend and YSL member, Gunna, throughout the trial. When Gunna took an Alford plea to avoid jail time, he faced criticism from some fans and peers who accused him of “snitching.” However, Williams Sr. defended Gunna, emphasizing that the YSL family endured significant pressure from the legal system. He stood by both Young Thug and Gunna, showing a unified stance during an incredibly challenging time.
Williams Sr.’s Hope for the Future
Despite his concerns about the plea deal, Williams Sr. remains optimistic about his son’s future. “I feel great that he’s going home, but at the same time, I still want him to fight, but that’s his decision. I raised him to be the man that he is. I’ve always been in his life, from a pup to now. And I’m gonna continue to be in his life. As an adult, he has to make his own decisions,” he said.
As Young Thug re-enters society, Williams Sr. is determined to support his son through any challenges. He remains hopeful that his son can rebuild his life despite the restrictions and conditions of his release.
