A first of its kind, but definitely the need of the hour, the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Northern England is set to be the first dedicated socially-distanced music venue to open this summer.

With a capacity of up to 2,500 people, the venue set kick-off as early as later this summer at the Newcastle Racecourse. As represented in the picture, attendees will have their own dedicated area enjoy the concerts, and dance away.

Explaining the flow of events and how they expect this to work out, a recent tweet explained “Safely park your car and join the socially distanced queuing system into the Arena. Follow directions to your personal viewing area. Have food and drink delivered to your area through the @VirginMoney Unity Arena app and enjoy the show!”

SSD Concerts, in partnership with the organizers of Newcastle’s This Is Tomorrow Festival, will be opening and managing this venue. Speaking to Mixmag about the new venue, SSD Managing Director Steve Davis said,
“Since all of our scheduled concerts have been postponed to later in the year and all venues in the city closed, the staff at SSD had a willingness to continue. We can’t be without music during these times so our only thought has been how can we bring music back to the British public safely and responsibly. We have been hosting loads of live sessions and DJ sets across our social media, supporting local artists, and raising money for the NHS. Now, we’re taking it one step further as the UK slowly comes out of Lockdown.”

The venue will also be taking multiple health and hygiene precautions from installing sanitizer stations to requiring staff to wear masks at all times. Each row of platforms will have a dedicated section for toilets so as to reduce crowds. In addition, there will also be a trained medical team onsite if any customers were to require it.

In addition to DJ sets and live music, the venue will also host entertainment and comedy events. The first part of the summer line up just dropped today and features live acts like Craig Charles, Two Door Cinema Club, Maximo Park, and more.

Tickets go on sale this Friday on the official website.
